Begin your day with a visit to the Religious Complex in Old Cairo, a remarkable site that reflects Egypt’s diverse spiritual heritage. Explore the iconic Hanging Church, the Churches of St. George (Mar Girgis) and St. Barbara, the historic Ben Ezra Synagogue, and the Mosque of Amr ibn al-Aas—the first mosque ever built in Islamic Egypt.
Continue to the Monastery of Saint Simeon (Simon the Tanner), a unique Coptic site carved into Cairo’s Mokattam Mountain. This impressive complex includes six Orthodox churches: the Church of Anba Shenouda, the Church of Anba Brahm ibn Zara the Syrian, the Church of the Angel, Mary and Hanna, the Church of Anba Paula and Anba Antonios, the Church of Mark the Evangelist, and the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary and Saint Simeon—the largest church in Egypt.

Day 4 Catherine & Mount Moses
Located in the heart of South Sinai, St. Catherine is the highest inhabited city in the region, sitting on a plateau 1,600 meters above sea level and covering an area of 5,130 square kilometers. Surrounded by Egypt’s tallest mountains, Mount Catherine, Mount Moses, and Mount Safsafa, the city enjoys a unique climate: mild in summer and snowy in winter, creating a stunning natural landscape.
Recognized as the largest nature reserve in Egypt, St. Catherine is known for its religious, historical, and natural significance. It is a hub for religious tourism, mountain climbing, and desert safaris. Local communities primarily work in agriculture, herding, and tourism.
The city takes its name from Saint Catherine of Alexandria, a learned and devout Christian who was martyred in 307 AD for refusing to renounce her faith. According to tradition, her body was miraculously transported by angels to a mountaintop in Sinai. It was later moved to the Monastery of St. Catherine, built in the 6th century by Emperor Justinian, which remains one of Christianity’s oldest active monasteries.
Nearby Mount Moses (Mount Sinai) is believed to be the place where Moses received the Ten Commandments. Known as the “Mountain of God” in the Bible (Exodus and Kings), it is also referred to as Mount Horeb in other scriptures. Some scholars consider Sinai and Horeb different names for the same mountain; others, like Abraham ibn Ezra and John Calvin, believed the names referred to different peaks of a single mountain.
